Major Kratom

DiSalvo Kratom Experiment

David DiSalvo, originally wrote an article for Forbes bashing Kratom, until he learned what it was for, and how much it helps those that need it.As the buzz about the health benefits of Kratom spreads, we are seeing more and more articles about what Kratom does, and how the public should think of it in comparison to other energy/pain-reducing supplements. David DiSalvo is a science and technology contributor to Forbes magazine, and he recently conducted his own experiment on the usage of Kratom. For a number of weeks, DiSalvo used different strains of Kratom in both powder and tablet form, from a few different vendors. From a purely curious and non-biased point of view, DiSalvo describes how he felt after taking the Kratom, the differences he felt in between types of strains, or between powder/tablets, and also how he felt when he stopped taking Kratom after his body had become used to it.

DiSalvo's experience is yet another example of how safe and effective Kratom is when taken at the correct amount, just like any over-the-counter medicine or caffeinated beverage that helps the average adult get through a long day. Many people worry about becoming addicted to the substance, but Kratom is an all natural product derived from the leaves of the Korth tree, totally free of man-made chemicals and synthetics, and many people are finding that the "withdrawal" effect is nothing compared to that of coffee, yet Americans are still drinking 400 million cups of coffee per day.

It is a natural reaction for people to worry about the negative effects of something they don't know much about, but that worry can be quickly relieved with a bit of education and open-mindedness. If they don't want to take it from satisfied Kratom users, at least now they can take it from a guy who writes for Forbes: "I can see no reason why it should be banned, or on what basis such a product would be banned if people can walk into a typical coffee shop and buy an enormous cup of an addictive substance that’s arguably more potent than any Kratom available anywhere."

Thailand May Clear Kratom's Name

A news report in Thailand suggests that Kratom may be taken off their narcotics list. They cite Kratom's mildness for the change.

Justice minister pushes for legalisation of the herb, citing medicinal properties

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) is responding positively to the proposed legalisation of kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), which is currently on the narcotics list.

The ONCB will be meeting with the Food and Drug Administration, the Public Health Ministry and the National Police Office next week to discuss whether kratom should be removed from the list.

Available records show that Thailand is the only country that describes kratom as a narcotic.

"We will listen to the opinions of all relevant parties," ONCB secretary-general Pongsapat Pongcharoen said yesterday.

Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri, who is pushing for the legalisation, said he grew up in Bangkok's Thon Buri area where kratom was grown and used, and he had never encountered anybody going into a drug-crazed stupor from its consumption.

"In fact, kratom was used as a traditional medicine in the past," he said, adding that he did not wish to promote the use of kratom, but believed it may distract people from using harmful drugs like methamphetamine or crystal-meth.

"Caffeine in coffee and energy drinks is also more addictive than kratom," he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Anek Yomchinda, chief of the Central Institute of Forensic Science, admitted that preliminary studies showed that kratom did indeed have medicinal properties.

"In New Zealand, it is a component in the production of painkillers and antibiotics," he said.

A Senate-appointed committee, tasked with studying the pros and cons of kratom use, has found that the plant contains mitragynine, which serves as an analgesic. While its pain-easing effect is about 10 times weaker than morphine, it does not have an adverse effect on the respiratory system nor does it cause nausea, the committee said. There are also no records to show that kratom consumption might be behind crimes.

Steady Supply

The initial kratom shortage this spring was a very real event. It was a dark time for many of us. Since then, we've re-doubled our efforts and secured supply and quantity that we think should have us in stock without shortage for some time. Once we are fully confident in our ability to maintain stock despite the situation in Indonesia, we'll reintroduce the 500g bags.

Currently we have all varieties of Kratom in stock with the exception of Sumatran Superior and Premium Green Vein. We have a few shipments that are in/out of customs, so we expect that there will be PGV/SUP back in stock early next week.

This isn't our warehouse - it's WalMart.

Kratom Shortage

Sometimes it feels like an uphill battle. We struggle to keep kratom legal, and ourselves free of pharmacuetical pain or anxiety medication, and then before we have a chance to rest, our supply is threatened.

There is currently a control being placed on Kratom exports from Indonesia, where most of the world's Kratom originates. The controls may place restrictions on shipping out of the country and also movement within the country. The restrictions may be an attempt to regulate the industry, but we are still not certain. In the US, this has created a shortage where many vendors have rasied their pricing to take advantage of the situation. Yet, others have thrown in the towel completely. We have chosen to limit the size of orders, so that everyone has a chance to make it through this difficult time.

We, at Major Kratom, believe that the shortage caused by this will pass, but it may take time. Our suppliers are dealing with the restrictions, lobbying to adjust them, and adjusting their businesses so they may be able to continue to ship. The outcome, however, is inconsistent shipping times, delays, etc.

Apologies are due to our customers, as many of you have been waiting for your orders to ship. We assure you that your orders will ship - albeit delayed. Our situation was compounded by running out of our plastic tins - which are now in, but will wait to be filled until our kratom shipments arrive.

The good news is that we have recently been informed that we have some shipments moving toward us. We urge you to place your orders to secure your position in the queue - first come, first serve.

Kratom is Safe In Vermont!

UPDATE 1/31/13: 7HM remains in the Emergency Drugs Ban, with no mention of Kratom, or clarifying the rule by specifying isolated 7HM or synthesized 7HM. However, it is on the record, in the minutes, that the whole leaf is not what they are looking for and that the state does not intent to go after the plant. That said, Major Kratom relocated to New Hampshire to avoid complications.

The Vermont Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules met Thursday, 0800, 1/24/13 at the Vermont State House. This was to be the final ruling on whether the alkaloid 7-Hydroxy-Mitragynine would remain on the list creating a gray area regarding the legality of Kratom in ground and simple tincture forms.

Clinical Herbalist, Justin Garner of Sweet Flag Medicinals in Brattleboro, VT and I, Bill Lockwood of Major Kratom testified as part of the agenda. The LCAR committee was very receptive of the testimony which:

  • Compared Kratom to Krypton, a designer drug (synthetic opiate) that used Kratom as a carrier/bulker to cut 0-DT - a more potent form of tramadol
  • Identified the many uses of Kratom by reading some customer testimonies. Thank you for sending those in. These were key in humanizing the issue, attaching the wellbeing of your families, etc
  • Noted the huge increase in...

The Opiate Effect Movie

the opiate effect movie posterIt seems just minutes after we uploaded the "Kick Subs" decals to the Major Kratom site that we hear about a movie and a talk going on at UVM tonight at 7pm in the Davis Center 4th floor. Here's the excerpt.

Will Gates died from a heroin overdose in 2009.  His father, Skip Gates, began a journey to try and educate as many people as possible of the harm in not only the drug, but also the drugs prescribed to help, and how we are dealing with the problem.  Through the voices of Skip, his son Sam, former opiate abusers, The HowardCenter, Senator Leahy, Tristram Coffin, Attorney General Holder and more; we find ourselves amidst reality in, "The Opiate Effect".  Download the entire film http://grpvt.com/opiateeffect

I'll be personally attending this talk, meeting with Skip, and gathering more feedback for the regulated drugs hearing on the 19th - where mitragyne, the alkaloid alone, may be under fire. More info on the time at http://uvmbored.com/event/film-the-opiate-effect/. For now, check out the trailer.
