The FDA and Kratom
The #kratom community is a small portion of the population, compared to the many members of the general public who have never heard of this all natural alternative before. However, this has shifted in recent years as people are learning about the wonderful benefits offered by the kratom leaf. Kratom's growing popularity has resulted in it gaining attention in the media and from the Food and Drug Administration as well.
This week an article written by Lloyd Billingsley for The Washington Times entitled "An Excuse For Crushing Kratom" reported on the governments most recent and entirely unfounded ruling on kratom. The FDA made no effort to thoroughly investigate the benefits of kratom before stating that it would undoubtedly become a "menace" and was an "unsafe product". The fact is they did not conduct any tests or research in depth the science behind all natural kratom. They simply went straight to writing it off as an "dangerous drug" that has "potential to lead to abuse." Whether you are for kratom or against it, the FDA's willingness to immediately dismiss all natural kratom without proper testing and research should be very alarming to you. Especially, when you consider the FDA's willingness to approve drugs that are known and have been proven to lead to abuse such as Oxycodone and Adderall. Both are popular prescriptions doing their part in the $374 billion dollar pharmaceutical industry.
The article goes on to share the feedback on the FDA's report from kratom supporters as well as input from medical professors and scientists. Where Does Kratom Come From?
Many, whether they are new to kratom or have been enjoying the benefits of this all natural plant for awhile, ask where does Kratom come from? The Major has a few fun facts about the kratom leaf's origins.
Where does kratom come from?
Almost all kratom trees grow in the Indonesian region of the island of Borneo which happens to be the world's third largest island! Borneo is an island with amazing forests, rivers, wildlife as well as various indigenous tribes. One of the more remarkable traits of Borneo is that it is the home of over 11,000 plant species! This is largely due to the significant amount of rain that falls on Borneo each year, ranging anywhere from 150 to 200 inches yearly! To put that in perspective New York City's average rain fall is 46 inches yearly.
The rainy weather in Borneo allows for a diverse ecosystem!
Over it's fairly brief recorded history, the island of Borneo has been at the center of numerous territory battles between European and Asian settlers. Presently, it is split between Indonesia, Malaysia and the small nation of Brunei. The Major's kratom leaves come exclusively from the Indonesian region of Borneo. One of the largest rivers on Borneo is the Mahakam River, flowing 608 miles from the northern highlands to it's mouth at the Makassar Straight! The Major's Mahakam River Maeng Da is sourced from the forests that line the banks of the Mahakam River. The Buntok region, located in Central Kalimantan Region of Indonesia, has fertile soil and plenty of rain, ideal for kratom. These ideal condition are why The Major sources his Buntok Maeng Da from there!
The Mahakam River winds 608 miles through the lush rainforest of the Indonesian region of Borneo.

Despite the many wonderful benefits of this little leaf it still remains very much a secret. Many have never heard of kratom and those who have often only have a vague understanding of it's numerous health benefits. Worse still, popular media is chock full of misinformation regarding kratom, how it is made and what it does for those within the kratom community.

Stories Beneath the Leaf
As I began this journey in October of 2010, I knew that I’d meet people with diverse backgrounds and from all walks of life, and I knew that I’d be moved by the accounts of recovery. I was prepared to be confronted with the occasional story that would make me take a step back and truly appreciate life. Unknown to me at the time, I was starting a journey that would take me to meet so many extraordinary people overcoming so much in their lives.
The kratom stories came in month after month. Heart wrenching stories of amazing people whose lives were turned for the better because of all natural kratom. The stories have a substantial impact on us, and I knew these stories would have a meaningful impact on others. At most, I’d meet an individual with a remarkable life story a few times a year. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I’d be meeting and helping so many people every month with incredible life stories. Stories that started off dark, had a glimmer of light, and went dark again, were the norm.
Again and again, the pattern was broken when kratom was introduced. Kratom gave hope anlife. The darkness ended and seldom returned.
A little over a year ago, we began a focus on kratom stories with the objective of compiling 100 stories to offer as testimony for the numerous wellness benefits of all natural kratom. Now, KratomStories.Org, a non-profit organization with the purpose of telling the real story of kratom, is sharing the many wellness benefits of all natural kratom!
